[Porn Discussion] Porn Becoming Mainstream

Hey all - general topic for discussion.

I was talking with my brother the other day about porn in the mainstream. He has a 4 year old daughter and we were talking about how much easier it is to recruit girls for this type of work nowadays.
It used to be that porn was very underground (70's 80's 90's).
Accessing porn, let alone becoming involved was much more difficult.

Younger girls and boys were most likely to have their first porn experience either from their own Dads collection of a few mags or vids, or from a friend who stole their dads collection.
If you were an aspiring porn actress, you would most likely need to move to where it was being produced (NY or LA) and then )(hopefully) get a sleazy agent and navigate a very dark and secretive industry yourself.
It was generally considered a "shameful" industry with little long term upside for the performers.

Then came the internet.

Now you are seeing a much different picture of the industry.
It is accessible almost anywhere.
It is portrayed as "glamorous" with awards shows and red carpets, and filmed in gorgeous mansions.
It can be seen as a launchpad into mainstream tv/film/music (See: Sasha Grey, Chloe Cherry, Lupe Fuentes, etc)
It can turn many of the talents into millionaires.
But most of all...anyone can participate from anywhere. With porn sites "recruiting" talent thru their websites site and places like onlyfans, your daughter could become a pornstar without ever leaving her bedroom.

So the last 20 years have seen some MAJOR changes in operation and perception of the industry. How do you feel about it all?

Is porn in the mainstream a good thing or a bad thing? (This can be in regards to your family, society as a whole, or the sex industry itself.)
Considering the money that is involved would you be ok with your daughter deciding to go into the adult business? If so, would the context matter? (ie: Shooting for Brazzers vs. an Onlyfans site)
Do you think that eventually "pornstar" will be just another job or do you think it will ALWAYS have a stigma?

And lastly how long before we see Warner Bros drop their new July 4th blockbuster in theaters starring Ron Jeremy and Emily Willis? Lol.

Like CR once said...

Since we are a porn-forum (18+), I kindly ask you to stay away from posting underage pics at any cost.

Thank you for understanding.
Read the Rules, please.

What an interesting and complicated question greengoblin69 asked.

I remember the transitions from porn mags...to...porn VHS...to...porn internet...and I have to say that I love the internet because you can easily find what suits you.

Having said that, if I had a daughter or a son for that matter, I would NOT endorse them going into porn.  I still believe there are long-term impacts and stigmas out there that could come back to harm them.  I was recently reading info about and comments from Ashlynn Brooke and she has had some long-term issues.

I've wondered - is there really that much money involved?
Or is it the top 10% of performers getting 90% of the revenue?

I don't think it will ever become mainstream - sure, it has become more accessible and there's the odd performer here and there who has appeared in non-porn media.
But for it to become mainstream will involve a huge cultural shift in how we view sex and porn.

I think it used to be that only the top performers earned all the revenue, but with the internet that has changed a lot.
Now actresses have their own websites in addition to sites like onlyfans, etc. The money is ridiculous.

For example, Shaiden Rogue, who has made about 20-30 BJ videos on her onlyfans has approx 22k regular subscribers with estimates from other sites adding up to maybe 100k. Multiply that by the $29.95 or $39.95 per person per month.
Low estimates are 600k in revenue per month. Some estimates have her puling in millions per month. Thats is a lot of money for a few BJ's.
And that doesn't even include the high value gifts she receives, or the sales from her shop. She has apparently been gifted SEVERAL Lamborghini's, etc. According to her she just sells them because she has no need for them.

Now, Shaiden is an outlier and looks just like Megan Fox, so she has that advantage.
But even for a "normal" looking girl who only has 100 subscribers, that is still 4k per month! 100 subscribers is simple to get.
So even a relative unknown in porn has the potential to make HUGE money for themselves from the comfort of their own home.

So back to my point, it is a weird situation.
On one hand, a girl can go to college, accrue 100's of thousands in lifelong debt, and work 40 hour weeks for anywhere from 30k-200k per year. Or she could suck her boyfriends dick a handful of times on camera and become a millionaire overnight.

We ALL have sex. So if YOU had the opportunity to make millions doing something on camera that every single person alive does, but it had a "stigma" about it, would you?
Would you be upset if it was your daughter, or does the money make it all ok?
