em yeah it depends what you're looking for. Other than indie developers, I don't think there's that many games in the West. However theres a good amount of japanese games out there that's better than the flash games you mentioned. One game thats popular is honey select (you can find torrent links on 4chan) and there are tons of mod support for it.

Like bob said thereare many japanese games like visual novels,rpg etc there is a wide variety and some are translated to english too,I haven't played many but there are specific forum to download them,I don't know whether i can put their name or link.
