Pills & injections have been happening for a long time. They've also conditioned themselves to not cum too easily.

I think the desensitisation thing might be true, I remember reading somewhere the brain adjusts to a new level of pleasure as its baseline.
Obviously, I'm simplifying things a lot, but wouldn't surprise me if sex was anything like any other pleasurable activity e.g. alcohol.
